Renew Capital: Mainstreaming gender in playbook for investors and entrepreneurs
This playbook is a hands-on and practical guide for investors and entrepreneurs in mainstreaming gender across their systems and services.
Renew Capital is a private equity fund manager based in East Africa, investing across Africa. They lead the market on gender lens investing by meaningfully integrating gender in their own organisation, their investment process and supporting clients/investee companies to do the same.
While there is an abundance of reports and documents on gender lens investing, Renew Capital saw that there was no practical and actionable toolkit that supports fund managers and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Sub-Saharan Africa. The SG2X Toolkit was developed to address this need.
Context
This toolkit is now hosted on the 2X Global website. This year alone, the modules have been visited by 45,000 users. Due to the success of our partnership, we now provide ongoing support to Renew Capital as a gender lens investing adviser. We provided strategic advice in setting up the Isua Network for Women, a peer-to-peer networking and training platform for women-owned and -led micro, small and medium enterprises in Ethiopia.
Approach
Renew Capital developed the core business content of the toolkit while CoSustain Consulting was asked to mainstream gender across all the tools and content. We collaborated closely for 18 months until the launch of the toolkit.
