In 2018 the gender finance area was beginning to gain momentum but in its early stages of becoming mainstream. Through her conversations, the late Suzanne Biegel, the catalyst at large, identified a need to create a tool that could catalyse the field by helping to map stakeholders, their role in gender finance, relationships between each other and actions they might take.

Catalyst at Large: Gender Finance Systems Map

CoSustain Consulting was recommended to Catalyst at Large by a partner, and they subsequently asked us to support the work to deliver the Gender Finance Systems Map.

Context

The Gender Finance System Map presents a comprehensive illustration of the actors, tools, initiatives, and types of capital that comprise the gender finance system, as well as the barriers and opportunities for systemic change. Users can zoom in, zoom out, drill-into more detailed information and links, and explore the map through an array of different layers: from the role of individual financial life and community roles, to sexual and gender-based violence, to “Womenomics.” The goal is to help users visualize where they sit in the ecosystem, and help them identify the players, relationships, and institutions they need to influence and collaborate with.

Approach

We worked with Suzanne and the Nexial team to develop the Map and launch it at the Gender-Smart Summit 2022. We provided project management support and contributed significant insight, writing, and research.
